We're helping - Romania
Even though Romania is not as impoverished as Ghana, their plight is nonetheless very grim. Despite years of under investment in education, teachers are determined to raise standards and improve facilities. They've had great success introducing IT studies into their curricula, thanks in part to the efforts of Digitek SRL with whom we work.
Local businesses are helping...
Although Digitek SRL is a profit making company, it has close links with the Romanian education authorities and has a long, respectable history of supplying schools with quality PCs at affordable rates. The company is owned by Mihai Dobru who uses his Rotarian contacts to foster a community spirit and gain support from local businesses for the schools he supplies.
...to give the children a chance.
Since 1997, Digitek SRL have supplied Romanian schools with nearly 6,000 PCs, most of which were provided by CKS. One particular success story is the 6 schools in Baia Mare. Thanks to the efforts of the teachers and help from local businesses, each school has a computer classroom and all six schools are connected as one wide area network. Not that long ago, such a facility and the opportunities it offers the children would have been unthinkable.
